"Our real enemies are not those living in a distant land whose names or policies we don't understand; The real enemy is a system that wages war when it's profitable, the CEOs who lay us off our jobs when it's profitable, the Insurance Companies who deny us Health care when it's profitable, the Banks who take away our homes when it's profitable. Our enemies are not several hundred thousands away. They are right here in front of us."

I am a VietNam War veteran who moved to Canada in 1971 in disgust and anger. Disgust that I had allowed myself to be involved in war for profit; angry that all the programming I'd received, principally through the school system, was a dark and twisted lie... angry that friends of mine died in an illegal war that would eventually be "lost". Mike's speech put tears in my eyes, not so much because of it's well chosen, powerful words, but because there are still so many ignorant, racist and complacent people who have closed their minds to an ugly truth they choose not to hear.
Although some might say I ran away, I would have lost my mind had I remained in the U.S. I'm thankful that I found a kinder, gentler place to live and raise a family. God bless you, Mike, for having the courage to speak out.
Thanks for posting! After this speech I went on to co-found an organization with other veterans; check it out, and help us spread the word! www.MarchForward.org
